Teaching

Private Lessons

Personalized one on one student lessons for students of age five and older, at any experience level. The goal is to build on the core fundamentals of piano to create a fully rounded musician. Once a solid foundation is built, the student can follow along any number of paths based on their musical tastes and goals, whether it is Traditional/Classical, Jazz, Pop/Rock, etc. Both reading and aural/ear training skills are strongly emphasized.

Tuition

Fall and Spring Semesters include 16 lessons per semester. Tuition for these semesters is divided into 5 equal monthly payments per semester. It is fine to begin midway through a semester - tuition can be prorated based on actual number of lessons.

Summer semester can include up to 8 lessons but may be less based on the student’s preference. Summer tuition can be paid in full at the start of the semester, or divided into two equal monthly payments.

Typical lessons are offered three semesters per year with Fall and Spring Semester tuition billed on a monthly basis. Payments are invoiced on the first of the month and can be paid via debit or credit card. You may also pay with Venmo, PayPal, or by check. Tuition is due before the first lesson of each month.

Our Policies

The Student’s Home Instrument

Students will need a piano at home to practice on that is maintained and in good working order.

A piano can represent a significant investment, but there are many options that offer good value and are reasonably affordable. An acoustic piano is preferred, and there are many places to find used models for very little cost.

If an acoustic piano is not possible, a digital piano with 88-weighted keys is the best alternative for many students. Students aspiring to serious classical study and competitions will need an acoustic instrument after the first year. The instructor will be happy to provide any advice on locating the best available options.

Parent Involvement

For students under the age of 12, a parent is highly encouraged to attend all private lessons. Lessons are recorded and may be vewed by the student to review. It also provides a way for parents to monitor the lesson if they are not able to be present.

A student’s success in music studies depends on the involvement of a parent or responsible adult. Lesson time is limited, so it is important – especially for very young children – to have the parent assist them while practicing at home.

The Importance of A Routine

Daily practice is key to success. The ultimate goal of learning piano is to have fun with music, and the more our skills improve, the more fun we can have! A daily practice schedule is the best way to develop these skills. Ideally, students should aim to set aside time each day for practice, though the length of daily practice time will depend on the student’s level. The instructor will provide guidelines for each student individually.

Short, daily practice sessions are more effective than one or two long sessions per week. It is not effective and also is very stressful to wait until the end of the teaching week, then try to catch up right before a student’s next lesson! Students should come fully prepared for their lessons, so they will get the most benefit out of their time with the instructor. To emphasize, daily practice is key to success.
