Why we choose to learn piano
Learning piano can be rewarding at both the personal and the social levels. At times we may want to be reflective and use music as a way to express our feelings. Piano playing can be fully self-contained, not requiring any accompanist or formal scheduling of rehearsal times. Yet if we wish to share our experience, we can learn to communicate musically with others. The piano is unique in that it pairs well with any combination of instruments, or voices.
The lesson experience- Placing equal importance on reading and aural skills
We all know that as a child learns to communicate in any language, listening and speaking come before reading and writing. So, it follows that learning the language of music should follow this same model. The beginning student is allowed to become familiar with the musical language first through listening. As they become more familiar with the aural aspects, then reading and writing of music are introduced at a comfortable pace.
